Everything you need to live the hockey life

Female Hockey Players MUST-HAVES (part 2)

As a female hockey player, there are some essentials that you MUST have to avoid difficult situations and to just be downright comfortable.

In our last article, we touched on some of these things and due to popular demand, we will be bringing you more essentials that we believe every hockey girl should have in her bag.

Here we go:

  • Change of clothes:

Having an extra set of clothes after a game or practice will be great to avoid staying in your sweaty clothes longer than necessary.

  • Face wipes:

A pack of face wipes on hand will be useful in wiping off sweat after a game (this also prevents acne breakouts). Of course, you’ll still have to take a shower afterwards!

  • Energy drinks:

It is important to have energy drinks to keep you fueled up before, during, and even after the game. Energy drinks like Lucozade, Gatorade and Powerade are good choices.

  • Extra tape:

No one likes having to beg for a roll of tape, so having some of your own will make you the lender instead! Make sure to have tape for your stick and shin guards as well.

  • Gum:

According to a study conducted by Tokyo Dental College’s Department of Sports Dentistry — The Effects of Gum Chewing on the Body Reaction Time, chewing gum gives athletes the ability to run slightly faster and jump slightly higher. It was also reported in this study that chewing gum increases brain activity and enables a higher level of concentration. Chewing gum was also reported to decrease adrenaline (which will result in drowsiness and stress reduction) and will contribute to enhanced performance.

  • Two towels:

It is recommendable to have two towels with you. One to use before the game and one for after.

  • Running shoes:

Before a game/practice it is important to always warm up. You can take a light jog, kick around a football, do some stretches, or just go through your normal warm up routines.

  • Shower shoes:

Shower shoes are very convenient to have with you, especially if you're travelling. These will help keep your feet safe from unwanted germs. You’ve gotta take care of your feet!

  • Chapstick:

It is important to keep your lips hydrated.

  • Skate guards:

These will protect your skates and also protect other equipment in your bag from getting sliced up by your skates.

  • Spare laces:

Having an extra pair of laces will be very handy in case your lace breaks right before a game (that’s the worst).
